The Pilates Method was invented in the early part of the 20th century by, German athlete, Joseph Pilates. He designed a series of mat exercises to help balance the body, improve motion, strengthen, and promote mental and physical harmony. He studied both Eastern and Western forms of exercise including yoga, Zen, and ancient Greek and Roman regimens. Dancers and athletes were sent to Joseph Pilates for rehabilitation and physical therapy as well as maintaining extreme top shape. Naturalists believe in stimulating the body to heal itself, and it is likely that his mother's healing philosophy colored his own approach to therapeutic exercises. He originally named his technique "The Art of Controlology", control being one of the most important aspects of Pilates. The exercises Pilates developed require intense concentration and centered on a strong abdomen, deep stretching, and focused breathing. For many years, the method was the premiere exercise technique of the dance world. Notables, such as, George Balanchine, Martha Graham and Suzanne Farrell frequented the original New York Studio set up by Pilates.

Tammy Jane Filor is the owner of Heavenly Bodies with Pilates. Tammy Jane, former actress, performed with the NYC Ballet Company and she is a prominent instructor in the Pilates world. She is highly trained in dance, Pilates techniques, physical fitness, piloxing, yoga and physical therapy.  Tammy Jane is a certified fourth generation Pilates instructor under Joseph Pilates and Ron Fletcher.

Heavenly Bodies focuses on awakening those inner muscles and working them from the inside out rather from the outside in. We, at Heavenly Bodies With Pilates, believe that the mind actually creates the body and physical, mental health. As in life, thoughts and  movement must come from the center of our being or as the Pilates world calls the (power house).  We must keep our minds of wholeness centered through exercises while using proper alignment and percussive breathing with the heavenly bodies with Pilates system.

Pilates redefines muscles, strengthens backs and abdominal regions, creates long, lean, sexy muscles, while improving balance and posture. It also helps to regain flexibility.
